This year’s autumn colour display has been pronounced ‘beyond spectacular’

This year’s autumn colour display has been pronounced ‘beyond spectacular’ by one of the country’s leading autumn gardens, the Batsford Arboretum in Gloucestershire.

Autumn Colour

‘The arboretum always colours well, but this year I’ve noticed certain individual trees that are looking beyond spectacular with intensely bright colour,’ said director of operations Stuart Priest.

At Stourhead in Wiltshire, famous for its autumn displays, acers, tulip trees and American oaks spread gold, scarlet and bronze across the landscape, while at Westonbirt Arboretum, also in Gloucestershire autumn has been blazing away since September – brought on early by the perfect conditions of rain interspersed with plenty of sunshine.

It’s thought the perfect growing conditions through summer, followed by the driest October for 65 years, allowed trees to build up sugars in their leaves and develop those rich autumn colours to the full.

Beautiful Autumn Leaves

Though we can’t guarantee the weather here at the garden centre in Co. Limerick, we can provide you with some beautiful trees to add more autumn pizazz to your own garden. Among our favourites for autumn colour are Japanese maples, Ginkgo biloba, tupelo (Nyssa sylvatica) and the lovely native spindle, Euonymus europaeus. Pop in and pick one up today and plant straight away for your own autumn spectacular this time next year!
